Almazov National Medical Research Centre made a list of the best medical innovations to be implemented in 2017

On February 14, 2017, the leading X-ray surgeons in the North-West region gathered in the territory of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “National Medical Research Center of Cardiology named after V.A. Almazov” in order to evaluate the developments of 2016 in the field of medical technologies for cardiovascular surgery within the framework of the round table “The duration of double antiplatelet therapy with the use of drug-coated stents of the newest generation”.

The medical industry is not at a standstill. Each year foreign and Russian manufacturers offer new stents with improved characteristics. Once upon a time, there appeared stents coated with a drug that prevents the occlusion of the vessel, which was previously a frequent postoperative complication. However, the side effect of the medical substance was an increased likelihood of adverse effects due to the formation of a thromb (blood clot) in the affected area of the vessel. A new technology of “double antiplatelet therapy” has come to the rescue, which consists in the patient’s long-term admission of certain medications that minimize the risk of complications. So, at present, the vector of medical developments for such operations is aimed at finding the composition of the stent and drugs that would shorten the term of antiplatelet therapy or completely eliminate it.

Delegations of X-ray surgeons from all over the North-West region gathered at the round table in order to exchange experience and introduce advanced medical inventions under the moderation of recognized experts, such as the candidate of medical sciences Vlasenko Sergey Vasilyevich, the doctors of medical sciences Suhov Valentin Konstantinovich and Abugov Sergey Alexandrovich, professor Panov Alexei Vladimirovich. Discussions on the topic “The duration of double antiplatelet therapy with the use of drug-coated stents of the newest generation” was preceded by several complex surgical operations performed by the candidate of medical sciences Zverev Dmitry Anatolyevich, which were accompanied by an online broadcast for all present, in order to visually demonstrate the specifics of the work and application of new equipment.

The results of one of the operations and the advantages of new technologies were reported by the candidate of medical sciences, a doctor of X-rayendovascular methods of diagnosis and treatment of the highest qualification category Sergey Vlasenko:

“The technology of installing a coronary stent has long been worked out and does not present any problems. But when it comes to the branching of the arteries - this may cause certain difficulties. After all, even the most modern stent remains a foreign body with a metal frame, the configuration of which must be adjusted to the physiological features. Here, the technique used by the doctor is of great importance - the doctor must take into account a lot of factors, including the diameter of the arteries, the degree of their lesion, and the angle of divergence.
Today, a patient was supplied with two very good Biomime drug-coated stents, which are less susceptible to clogging” - said Sergey Vlasenko.

The Daksmed Group of Companies supported this event by providing the necessary tools for conducting demonstrational operations. “We adhere to strict principles in the choice of manufacturing partners, making every effort to ensure that, despite the abundance of technologies produced by medical companies every year, only the best modern solutions arrive in Russia, which allow optimizing treatment in each specific case, minimizing the risk, and preserving quality life of patients”.
